Some students of the Bayelsa State-owned Niger Delta University, Amassoma, have taken to the streets to protest the indefinite closure of the university.

The lecturers of the institution had on April 28 gone on an indefinite strike, following the inability of the state governor, Seriake Dickson to pay the backlog of workers’ salaries.

The aggrieved students in a statement by their spokesman, Wisdom Adike, threatened to march nude

with their books and block the Government House if after a week studies do not resume in the school.

As of the time the strike began, the government owed the university staff salaries of four months.

The students, under the aegis of the Niger Delta Visionary Movement, also criticised other students’ bodies such as the Student Union Government of NDU, National Union of Bayelsa State Students and the National Union of Izon-Ebe Students, saying they are puppets.

Wilson Adike said, “We wish to bring to the notice of the general public that the strike embarked upon by the ASUU, NDU chapter, on April 26, 2016, over non-payment of salaries, have led to the shutdown of the institution for over one month now.

“This development has continued to give parents and students great concern. Niger Delta University being the only state owned university is a legacy institution established by the late Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha who was recently laid to rest. The institution has not only helped in meeting the manpower needs of the state but the entire Niger Delta region and beyond.

Speaking further, Adike said, “We are also using this medium to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in his magnanimity and benevolence in salvaging the state from the current economic crunch and hardship as parents and guardians especially in the local governments of the state have not received salaries for over 12 months, despite the release of bailout funds by the Federal Government.”

Primary school students were thrown to panic and ran helter-skelter after a pupil allegedly turned to a snake during morning school assembly.
It was a shocking incident in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe as students ran out of their classrooms after the sudden appearance of a snake during school assembly. It was alleged that a student of the school fell down and started moving like a snake. The incident left many of the students injured in the fracas.

Speaking about what really happened, a reliable source who spoke to B-Metro said: “It’s not really clear what caused the children to run away from school because there are two different versions both involve a snake,” said the source.
He went on:”When they were at the assembly point,it’s said one pupil fell down and started moving like a snake resulting in teachers and pupils scurrying.
Some pupils claim it was a real snake and they ran away after seeing it. Others just screamed and followed the rest,” he said.
The incident caused the school management to cancel school lessons for the day. Esther Nyathi, a parent is one of the many who went to take their children at the school.
Bulawayo Provisional Education Director Dan Moyo is yet to confirm the school in which the incident took place as he said he had not yet received the report from the school headmaster. School resumed on the next day.

This happened yesterday. Secondary school students displaying their version of the dab dance in their creative Parade for Governor Atiku Bagudu during the Kebbi State Children's Day celebrations. The popular dance seemed to have won the heart of the governor judging from the delight on his face.

Biko, when did these kinds of celebration start...? Well, hopefully, no one gets injured from all this!

It was just like an horror scene from a scary movie, stumbling on a body snoring away on a pedestrian bridge few metres away from Kubwa Garage.

As if that was not enough, the snoring fellow was gorgeously cladded in the highly revered NYSC outfit. Upon waking him up, the horror story he narrated will exhaust several pages.

Is it not unfathomable that fresh graduate of one of Nigeria's Ivory Tower has been rendered homeless in the course of serving his fatherland? To further add salt to his injury, he was outrightly rejected by the government parastatal he was posted to for no concrete reason.

To further exacerbate his predicament, the unfortunate young Nigerian graduate is battling with pneumonia This is to serve as a wake up call to our policy makers to holistically review the NYSC Acts. Also, as a short term solution, we hereby call upon every well meaning Nigerian to come to the aid of Abuja corp members before the untold stress impinged on innocent corps members exceeds yield point.
The sickening positioning of the high tension over a residential house is what baffles me. On Saturday 21st May 2016, 14-year-old Deborah Faleke was instantly killed after one of the high tension cables that ran above their compound at Fagbeyiro Street in the Alakuko area of Lagos State fell and electrocuted her, we learnt

Deborah had concluded sitting for her WAESCCE only weeks ago.

Her father, Pastor Ademola Faleke said:

“On Friday, I went out of Lagos State for a ministration. So, the girl went to stay with her eldest sister on Fagbeyiro Street. That was not her first time.

“I was at Iyana-Ipaja on Saturday on my way back when I was called on the telephone and told about the incident. There was no rainfall. Deborah was not sent on any errand. She was just passing through the gate when the wire fell on her. The marks on her body showed that the wire fell on her head.

“She was rushed to a hospital. The workers there said they did not have adequate equipment. So she was rushed to a second private hospital on Adegbola Street, where she later died. The doctor issued a death certificate to us.

“She just finished secondary school; she was also my interpreter. She was very active in church. I want the electricity distribution company to at least show some concern. My daughter, who is my joy, has been taken away by a careless electrical connection.”

What would you do?

Initially saw it on Twitter last night and i thought it was a joke until i later saw the picture that it was for real.
A UNIOSUN best graduating student who bagged a first class was given a MUG by the state Governor Aregbesola of Osun state in company of the VC. You spend around 4-5yrs in the university studying pretty hard then you graduate as the best graduating student and they give you a silly mug. Tell me what cannot happen in this Nigeria we are in?
